Until recently, OS Winery was the oldest in the SoDo neighborhood. Founded by Bill Owen and Rob Sullivan in 1997, OS has been sourcing from some of the premier vineyard sites in the state to craft their red and white wines. I’ve had these wines back a decade or more and I have been impressed with the quality of these highly extracted wines — particularly in warm vintages. Current owner, Peggy Sullivan, and presides over the winery. Sadly, their tasting room in Seattle has recently closed, as they were a neighborhood fixture for many years. The winery sources from some great vineyards, including Dineen and Elephant Mountain in the Yakima Valley.
Scott Greer serves as winemaker for OS. The new releases come from some heralded vintages in Washington, 2013 and 2014, as both were very warm and provided near optimal growing conditions. Check out their 2014 OS ‘Sonas’ Cabernet Franc (WWB, 91) which has lovely depth and concentration and is drinking beautifully right now. Just was good use their 2014 OS ‘Sonas’ Cabernet Sauvignon (WWB, 91) which has a lovely mouthfeel and can be enjoyed in the short-term.
